Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
Most other Chatterbee information remains on your device. If you choose to enable backups, Chatterbee can store an encrypted backup in the private App Data area of your own Google Drive account.
AI features work differently. Dedicated AI chats and information intentionally submitted to cloud AI features must be sent in readable form to the service provider that processes the request. Dedicated AI chats therefore do not have the same end-to-end encryption protections as ordinary conversations between Chatterbee users.
Chatterbee also provides Private Mode for conversations between users. Private Mode prevents AI features on your device from using your private conversation information and allows other participants to use supported AI features while Chatterbee excludes or redacts your attributable information from the context prepared for cloud AI processing. Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI companion chats.
We do not sell your personal information. Under the AI services and configurations used by Chatterbee, information submitted to our AI providers is not used to train their AI models.
You may delete your account and associated Chatterbee cloud data from within the App or through our website. If you have enabled Google Drive backup, you may also choose whether to delete or preserve that separate backup. See Delete My Data.
1. Who we are
Chatterbee is operated by FinRight Studios LLC, a Texas limited liability company currently listed on Google Play under the developer name FinRight Studios ("FinRight Studios", "Chatterbee", "we", "us", or "our").
This Privacy Policy describes how we access, collect, use, process, retain, and disclose information in connection with the Chatterbee mobile application for Android and Wear OS (the "App") and the Chatterbee website (the "Site").
2. Information we access or collect
2.1 Account and profile information
Chatterbee stores a limited amount of account information in our cloud systems so that we can authenticate users and provide the service. This information includes:
- Your phone number, used for account creation, verification, and identification;
- Your display name; and
- Your profile photo or avatar.
Other Chatterbee user information is generally stored locally on your device unless it is temporarily processed as part of a feature you choose to use or included in an optional Google Drive backup.
2.2 Contacts
If you grant Chatterbee permission to access your device contacts, the App reads contact names, phone numbers, and contact photos locally on your device. This allows Chatterbee to synchronize its local contact list with your device phonebook, display familiar names and photos, and automatically reflect changes to your contacts.
Your device address book is not uploaded to FinRight Studios or our cloud providers.
If you choose to save a Chatterbee user to your device contacts or use a supported feature to edit that person's phonebook entry, Chatterbee may create or update the corresponding Android contact in response to your action.
Contact access occurs only after you grant the applicable Android permission. You may revoke this permission through your device settings, although doing so may limit contact synchronization and related features.
2.3 Messages and files
Chatterbee processes information that you send or receive through the App, including:
- Text messages;
- Photos and images;
- Videos;
- Voice messages and audio files;
- Documents and other attachments;
- Reactions, replies, and related conversation information; and
- Information necessary to route and deliver messages.
Ordinary person-to-person and group message content is protected using end-to-end encryption as described in Section 5.
Message history is primarily maintained locally on participants' devices. FinRight Studios does not maintain a permanent plaintext cloud archive of ordinary conversations.
2.4 Camera, microphone, and media access
If you grant the applicable permissions, Chatterbee may access your device's camera, microphone, photos, videos, or other selected media when you choose to use features that require them, including:
- Voice and video calls;
- Voice messages;
- Taking or sending photos and videos;
- Selecting existing media to attach or send;
- Voice transcription;
- Voice-enabled AI features; and
- Other audio, video, or media features you explicitly activate.
Chatterbee does not use these permissions to continuously collect audio, video, or media in the background for advertising or profiling purposes.
2.5 Call information
When you use voice or video calling, Chatterbee and the service providers necessary to conduct the call may process:
- Audio and video streams necessary to conduct the call;
- Call participants;
- Call start and end times;
- Connection and session information; and
- Technical information necessary to establish, maintain, reconnect, and troubleshoot calls.
2.6 Device, notification, usage, and diagnostic information
Chatterbee may automatically process limited technical information such as:
- Push notification identifiers: Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens used to notify your device about messages, calls, and other relevant activity;
- Presence information: online status, last-seen information, typing state, and similar communication metadata where supported;
- App usage information: events relating to feature usage and interaction with the App;
- Crash and performance information: diagnostic information used to identify crashes, errors, and performance problems; and
- Security and abuse-prevention information: limited device or request information used to protect Chatterbee from unauthorized automated use, fraud, spam, and abuse.
2.7 Location and map previews
Chatterbee does not use Google Maps to continuously track or transmit your device location.
Google Maps may be used to display a visual map preview when an address, location pin, or similar location information appears in a conversation. The information necessary to request and render that map preview may be provided to the map service.
2.8 Optional Google Drive backups
Chatterbee provides an optional backup and restore feature using the private App Data area of a Google Drive account you choose.
This feature is separate from your Chatterbee phone-number authentication and is enabled only if you choose to connect a Google account for backup.
A Chatterbee backup may contain information stored locally by the App, including conversation history, contacts maintained by Chatterbee, media, application settings, blocked-user information, and cryptographic material necessary to restore the functionality of your encrypted conversations.
Backup information is encrypted before or as part of the backup process and stored in Google Drive's private App Data area, which is not displayed as an ordinary file in your regular Google Drive.
Private cryptographic keys are not transmitted to or retained by FinRight Studios as part of our normal cloud infrastructure. If you enable Google Drive backup, cryptographic key material necessary to restore your conversations may be included in the encrypted backup stored in your private Google Drive App Data area solely so that functionality can be restored when you restore that backup.
You can delete your Chatterbee backup using the in-app Delete Backup from Drive control. When deleting your Chatterbee account, you are also given the option to delete the associated Google Drive backup. You may choose to preserve that backup instead.
3. AI features and privacy
Chatterbee includes optional cloud-powered artificial intelligence features. These features use a different privacy model from ordinary end-to-end encrypted messaging.
3.1 Dedicated AI companion chats
Dedicated AI companion chats are cloud-powered. When you interact with an AI companion, Chatterbee transmits information needed to generate the response over an encrypted network connection to an AI service provider.
Depending on the feature and conversation, this may include:
- Your current message or request;
- Relevant previous messages from the AI conversation;
- Conversation summaries;
- Stored memories, preferences, or contextual information used to personalize the AI's response;
- Instructions associated with the selected AI character or feature; and
- Other information reasonably necessary to fulfill the AI request.
Dedicated AI companion chats are not end-to-end encrypted. The AI service must be able to process the submitted information in readable form in order to generate a response.
Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI companion chats. Using a dedicated AI chat necessarily involves transmitting the information needed for that conversation to the applicable cloud AI provider.
3.2 Using AI inside an end-to-end encrypted conversation
Ordinary Chatterbee conversations remain end-to-end encrypted during normal communication between participants. However, Chatterbee also provides optional AI-assisted features that a participant may intentionally invoke inside a conversation.
When an AI feature is invoked, information necessary to perform that request may be decrypted locally on the requesting participant's device and sent over an encrypted network connection to an AI provider.
Content included in such an AI request therefore no longer has end-to-end confidentiality with respect to the AI service processing that request.
3.3 Private Mode
Chatterbee provides an optional Private Mode for conversations between Chatterbee users.
When you enable Private Mode:
- AI features on your device that would use private conversation information are disabled or restricted;
- Other participants may continue to use supported AI features on their own devices;
- When supported AI context is prepared for another participant's request, Chatterbee excludes or redacts information attributable to you before that context is transmitted to the cloud AI provider; and
- The setting does not prevent another participant from independently copying, describing, screenshotting, or otherwise sharing information outside Chatterbee through actions that Chatterbee cannot control.
Private Mode is designed to prevent Chatterbee's built-in AI features from transmitting your attributable conversation information to our AI providers when another participant chooses to use those features.
Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI companion chats.
3.4 Image and document understanding
If you intentionally ask an AI feature to analyze a photo, screenshot, document, or other supported file, that content and relevant context may be sent to a vision-capable AI service to fulfill your request.
3.5 Speech-to-text
If you choose to use cloud speech-to-text transcription, the audio selected for transcription is transmitted to our speech-to-text provider so that it can be converted into text.
3.6 AI image and sticker generation
When you request an AI-generated image or sticker, Chatterbee may transmit your text prompt, selected reference images, and information necessary to create the requested content to our image-generation provider.
3.7 AI provider logging and model training
Our cloud AI providers may temporarily retain limited request, response, and technical log information for diagnostic, security, abuse-prevention, or operational purposes according to their applicable service terms and retention practices.
Under the AI services and configurations used by Chatterbee, user prompts, responses, and other submitted content are not used to train the providers' AI models.
FinRight Studios does not use AI conversation logs for advertising or to train AI models. If FinRight Studios accesses diagnostic information relating to an AI interaction, we use it only as reasonably necessary to investigate bugs, diagnose failures, maintain the service, address abuse or security issues, respond to a user report, or fix problems with Chatterbee.
3.8 Reporting AI-generated content
Chatterbee provides an in-app mechanism that allows users to report offensive, abusive, unsafe, or otherwise inappropriate AI-generated content.
If you choose to submit a report, Chatterbee may collect and process:
- The AI-generated response you reported;
- The prompt or limited conversation context necessary to understand the report;
- The category or reason selected for the report;
- Technical information associated with the AI request; and
- Any additional explanation you voluntarily provide.
Reported information may be reviewed by FinRight Studios solely as reasonably necessary to investigate the report, enforce applicable policies, maintain content safeguards, diagnose technical problems, address abuse or security concerns, or comply with applicable law.
4. How we use information
We use information described in this Policy to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain Chatterbee;
- Create, authenticate, and manage user accounts;
- Synchronize your local Chatterbee contact list with your device contacts when you permit contact access;
- Route and deliver encrypted messages and media;
- Provide voice and video calls;
- Provide AI companions and other optional AI features you choose to use;
- Provide optional Google Drive backup and restore;
- Provide speech transcription, image generation, image understanding, web search, media search, map previews, and other requested features;
- Deliver push notifications;
- Maintain security and prevent fraud, abuse, spam, and unauthorized use;
- Investigate user-submitted reports involving AI-generated content;
- Diagnose crashes, bugs, service failures, and performance issues;
- Understand feature usage and improve reliability and functionality; and
- Respond to support requests or communicate with you about your account or the service.
5. End-to-end encryption
Ordinary one-to-one and group messages between Chatterbee users are protected using end-to-end encryption.
Message content is encrypted on the sender's device before being transmitted. Chatterbee's cloud infrastructure receives encrypted message data for delivery but does not possess the participant-held cryptographic keys necessary to read the plaintext conversation through our normal messaging infrastructure.
Recipient devices download and decrypt messages locally using cryptographic material available to authorized conversation participants.
Private device cryptographic keys are stored using secure Android storage mechanisms and are not transmitted to FinRight Studios' normal cloud infrastructure.
If you voluntarily enable Google Drive backup, encrypted cryptographic key material necessary for restoration may be included in your private backup as described in Section 2.8.
Important: end-to-end encryption does not apply to dedicated AI companion conversations or to content intentionally submitted for cloud AI processing. See Section 3.
6. Temporary cloud message and media delivery
Chatterbee is designed so that our cloud systems act primarily as a temporary delivery mechanism for ordinary end-to-end encrypted conversation content rather than as a permanent cloud conversation archive.
When ordinary message content or media is sent:
- The applicable conversation data is encrypted on the sender's device;
- Encrypted message information is temporarily placed in the recipient mailbox system and encrypted media may be temporarily stored using our cloud media-storage provider;
- Intended recipient devices download the applicable content;
- After all intended recipients have successfully retrieved the content, the temporary cloud delivery copies are deleted; and
- A cleanup process removes stale undelivered message and media data remaining in the cloud after seven days.
Conversation history retained by the App is primarily stored locally on participating users' devices.
7. Service providers and information processing
